The second
volume in
Sinkankas'
legendary three
volume set. The
format and
presentation was
outstanding,
though somewhat
lacking in color
plates on
gemstones and
minerals. The
selected
bibliography was
excellent and
the final
chapter on
famous
gemologists of
North America
was
enlightening,
especially the
pages on the
"man himself",
George Frederick
Kunz, who has
the mineral
Kunzite named
after him. I
have all three
volumes and the
original from
59, was the best
for it's time,
with the final
book, being the
best overall,
due to it's most
current data on
gemstone
location's on
the continent,
as well as
stunning color
plates, sadly
printed on cheap
paper, that
loses some of
it's appeal when
viewing these
"flowers of the
mineral
kingdom". If you
buy only one
volume buy the
third, or all
three, if you
feel the need
for completion |
